Lubricant Testing 101 - Copper Corrosion
A copper corrosion test, also known as ASTM method D-4048, is performed to ensure that a grease will protect the metal surfaces it comes in contact with over time. This test is often performed for automotive companies to determine how suitable a lubricant is for lubricating parts containing copper or copper alloys. This test is performed in order to avoid premature application failure from corrosion.
Nye released the Copper Corrosion video in the “Lubricant Testing 101” series. This video describes in detail the copper corrosion test. To learn how the test is performed on our lubricants, watch the video.
Calcium Sulfonate Makes its Debut at Nye
Rheotemp™ 662 is Nye’s first calcium sulfonate thickened product. This product is recommended for high load applications operating under extreme conditions. Rheotemp™ 662 is a high performance grease with premium physical properties, including excellent corrosion protection, water washout and spray off protection. It can be used in steel, mining and construction, marine, food processing, automotive, rail and power gen applications.
All About Additives – The Role of Antioxidants
In a past Lubeletter, we discussed how additives improve performance in our grease. In this article, and future articles to come, we will dive into the advantages of each additive package in our series “All About Additives.” This article will feature the role antioxidants play in improving our lubricants, showcasing how antioxidants prolong the life of a lubricant, and how Nye tests the efficiency of an antioxidant additive package.
Working with electrical connectors? We have a grease for you!
We are pleased to announce that we have formulated and commercialized Rheotemp™ 768G for use in connector applications. Rheotemp™ 768G is a polyurea thickened, medium viscosity, synthetic hydrocarbon grease for use in electrical contacts. A unique blend of alkylated naphthalene (AN) and PAO base oils boosts the lubricants’ heat tolerance while maintaining its superior wear protection. The blended oils are also compatible with most connector materials.
