Nye Gives Back - Sharing the Harvest Community Farm

Nye employees volunteered on two separate days at the non-profit, volunteer-driven farm in Dartmouth, MA that aims to help fight hunger in our community. On our first volunteer day a group of 25 volunteers planted 650 feet of butternut squash, which will grow roughly 1,300 pounds (roughly 12,000 servings). We also harvested kale, lettuce, zucchini and scallions. All together we planted and harvested more than 18,000 servings of food in one afternoon.

With a smaller group of 15 for the second volunteer day we harvested cucumbers, zucchini, and green beans. With well over a combined 25,000 servings of food harvested for both days, Nye most certainly made an impact.

The following description of the farm can be found on the Dartmouth YMCA website

“Charged with the hunger relief mission, as well as community stewardship and agricultural education, Sharing the Harvest hosts thousands of volunteers each season working together to grow food for our neighbors. Thanks to those volunteers, Sharing the Harvest has donated more than 400,000 pounds of food and hosted more than 17,000 volunteers since the farm was founded! None of the produce grown at Sharing the Harvest is sold, instead 100% of our fruits and vegetables are donated to local hunger relief organizations.”
